There are only a few basic types of
plot.
I would recommend keeping a collection of objective
cards, which outline a characters motives.
Since
stories are about people, and the changes that occur to them, starting with
character objectives is an excellent way to develop a plot.
First, consider including emotions and objectives that truely move you.
Writing about something you feel deeply about lends your writing a sense of
realism.
For some stories, there will be conflict between a
main character and their antagonist. In this case, note the objectives of
each one. Each character must have strong reasons for opposing the other
that are believable.
Other stories will be plots in
which the main character must make a major decision. In this case, the
there should be reasons that the character should not make the decision as
well.
A third type of story is self discovery, which tends
to be a more introspective story line in which the main characters discovers
something about theirseves.
